Jeb admits to Wanderer that he listened to her stories about other planets and muses about what could have motivated Wanderer to track down their community. The others believe she’s a Seeker, but Jeb does not. He believes she was trying to find Jared and Jamie, but not to hand them over to the Seekers. Jeb has watched the souls for years, and he believes humans change the souls that inhabit them. Jeb wonders aloud what happens to a human’s consciousness when a soul is within their body. Wanderer does not answer, but when Jeb asks her about the other planets she has visited, she explains everything. He is extremely curious about the aliens and the invasion. Jamie arrives with a tray of food, and Wanderer continues telling them about other planets; she also admits that her Calling is to teach history. Jeb asks about her name, and she explains that while most souls only live on two or three planets before settling, she has been to nine (counting the souls’ home planet).
When Doc comes to take the night watch, Wanderer is terrified.
