A desert storm rolls in as Adrian stalks Revel, whom he finds waiting protectively above his ashes. Revel talks loudly to attract Bravos’s attention, hoping that Bravos will team up with him to ensure that an Ashlord, not a Longhand, wins the Races.

Bravos agrees to help Revel defeat Adrian. However, Adrian knows that Bravos will turn on Revel later. Adrian weighs his options as Bravos and Revel approach. However, Revel unexpectedly hits Bravos on the head, knocking him out. Revel thinks that he can get Adrian to find and poison Bravos’s ashes, but Adrian refuses. He tries to attack Revel but is stopped by Revel’s spirit. Adrian realizes that Revel is cheating. He leaves Revel to deal with Bravos and returns to his own ashes. Bravos is injured, and he will go after Revel. Adrian feels confident about his chances of winning.

Pippa names her final rebirth Revenge. She leaves her supplies behind, and she and Quinn take off. As she gains on the leaders, Bravos slips to second place, and Revel takes the lead. They make it to the final canyon, the last stretch before the finish line.
